Brooklyn Perfect but LeBronto Better
With ninety-nine pitches and nine strikeouts, Domingo German recorded a Perfect Game for just the 24th time in the history of baseball. Naturally enough, the Brooklyn Robins – the greatest influence toward increasing the HumBabe Point Value associated with No Hitters and Perfect Games – collected the dividend in Week Thirteen. German’s line, bolstered by 30 points for the Perfect Game, totaled 83.5 fantasy points (1st among all players this week.) Perfect – but by the end of the week the Robins had compiled 434.75 total points, 7th best among HumBabe teams and 119.25 less than their opponent, the LeBronto Blue James. Andrew Abbott (57.83pts), Kyle Tucker (48.5pts), and Jose Ramirez (41pts) led LeBronto to a 554 team total, 2nd best in Week Thirteen. This Match-Up of the Week led to an active Group Chat and ultimately, shed some light on one of the LeBronto GM’s skillful roster maneuvers that exemplifies their repeat success. Rostering prospect and rookie pitchers like Andrew Abbott and Emmett Sheehan, who have yet to reach the prospect threshold of 50 Innings Pitched, allowed LeBronto to house those arms in Minor League roster spots in between their starts. Management of this “arm barn” gave the Blue James the ability to throw a league best, eighteen starting pitchers between June 26th and July 2nd – six more than Brooklyn. Masterful exploitation of League Rules such as this certainly speak to why LeBronto’s logo is on the Championship banner in three consecutive seasons, but what will this GM do when the “arm barn” no longer falls under the prospect threshold and has to hold everyone in Major League roster positions?
LeBronto moves to 10-3 with 6431.75 total points on the Season; 1st in the SCL Ruth Division. Brooklyn falls to 7-6 with 5601.833 total points; 2nd in the SCL Ruth Division.
Gatekeepers having Jackal for dinner
They weren’t labeled the Match-Up of the Week from a Pick-Em perspective, but Jackal Attack and the Golden City Gatekeepers undoubtedly stole the limelight of Week Thirteen action. Jackal entered the week as the League’s sole undefeated squad, 12-0, while Golden City had just a 6-6 record to their name. Shohei Ohtani put out another inhumane performance for Jackal, 78.17 fantasy points, but was arguably cheated by the controversial, industry-wide, Fantasy Baseball rule that does not allow players to collect hitting and pitching points in the same game. Shohei collected 31.17 points from his 6-1/3 Innings Pitched and 10 Strikeouts on June 27th, but forfeited the 18 hitting points associated with two Home Runs because he was in a Pitching roster spot. Those 18 points, unfortunately, were the difference in this week’s Match-Up. Golden City’s 492 total points was 16.92pts better than Jackal at the end of the week. Luis Robert (53.5pts), Matt Olson (52.5pts), and Eloy Jimenez (44.5pts) overshadowed the 24 hitting points left on the Gatekeepers bench during the week and lead to the first Jackal Attack defeat in 2023.
Jackal now owns a 12-1 record, 6052.25 total points, and a 1st place standing in the BCL Mays Division. Golden City stands at 7 Wins and 6 Losses, 5454.417 total points, and 3rd place in the BCL Mays Division.
