Week Seven Recap

LeBronto Surging

The heavyweight match-up of Week Seven, LeBronto v Jackal Attack, surprisingly ended up as a bit of a boat race.  Worth noting, the 502 FPts that LeBronto put up would have manhandled any opponent this week, but how sweet the Jackal defeat is.  Naturally the GMs took to Twitter at the earliest opportunity, where LeBronto broadcasted to the rest of HumBabe that the Jackal Attack may not be all that they have been hyped up to be.

The results of the Match-Up of the Week Pick-Em voting favored Jackal Attack by an 8-4 count.  LeBronto has been atop the league in the worst statistics – injured players – which certainly supports that Jackal advantage.  Mike Trout, Sandy Alcantara, Luis Garcia, and Lance McCullers Jr currently fill the four LeBronto IR spots, while injured Blake Snell, Garrett Whitlock, and Lane Thomas occupy additional, non-IR, roster spots.  Mass injuries even caused the Blue James to part ways with Byron Buxton this week – there’s only so many roster spots to go around.

Kyle Tucker put up 46 FPts, Jose Ramirez 42, and Bryce Harper 39, on the way to the 502 FPt team total.  The total surpassed the second highest scoring team, Orlando, by a whopping 54 FPts.  Jackal was led by Shoehi Ohtani (39), Gunnar Henderson (36), and Jaren Duran (34) again, but fell to 4-3 on the season with this loss.

Now Showing: Paul Skenes

Could there be a more exciting prospect call-up than what Paul Skenes has been?  Fitting comparisons have been drawn to the historic Stephen Stradburg debut back in June of 2010 where Strasburg struck out fourteen in his first taste of MLB action.

During Week Seven play in HumBabe, Skenes threw six innings of no-hit baseball, allowing just one walk while striking out eleven.  The 34 FPts tallied in favor of the Hard Ball Lords of Destruction, but still failed to give the team a 2024 win.

Zero wins in seven tries is a tough reality to face for Hard Ball, but Skenes certainly shines as the face of a brighter future.  Perhaps this dumpster diving record will produce some more high-end prospects to compliment the young Pittsburgh arm – the first opportunity to do just that comes later this season via the 2024 First Year Player (FYP) Draft.  Hard Ball has all but solidified their position as the first pick in that draft, coming at the expense of owning the worst HumBabe Dynasty record.

Get ‘Em While They’re Hot

Luis Matos scored more fantasy points than anyone in baseball over the seven calendar days that made up HumBabe’s Week Seven.  The Brooklyn Robins swooped in and claimed him on May 18, just in time for a 23 FPts performance on that same day.

Joey Ortiz, just as hot as Matos, averaged 7.25 FPts per game over the Week Seven stretch.  Claimed by the Perth Platypi on May 19, Ortiz joins Luis Renifgo and Wenceel Perez in the growing collection of Perth free-agency-acquired infielders.  Corbin Burnes is shoving in Baltimore, but tough for the Milwaukee Brewers to complain about the corresponding return these days.

The common denominator here, and the public service announcement to all other HumBabe Dynasty General Managers – free agent players aren’t sitting on the wire long once they catch a hot streak.  It’s never easy to drop those players that are struggling in your lineup, especially when they are Keeper players, but Jake Meyers, Kevin Pillar, and Luke Raley lead the group of players still up for grabs – get ‘em while they’re hot gentlemen.
