Week Nine Recap

hot bats in perth

Well, the Artwork for the Week Nine Pick-Em Match-Up couldn’t have been a better comparison. Max Fried, ace of the Perth Platypi, posted 27.5 points in his six innings pitched (0 BB, 1 ER, 8 K’s, QS, W) while Joe Musgrove, ace of Straight Outta deGrompton, matched that with 27.5 points over six innnings pitched (2 BB, 0 ER, 8 K’s, QS, W). Amongst the other arms that threw in this Match-Up, deGrompton claimed the edge by 20 points, highlighted by two-start weeks out of Cal Quantrill and Michael Wacha. But that 20 point separation wasn’t enough to overcome what was lost to the Perth Platypi Hitting advantage. Salvador Perez (36.5 pts) and Cedric Mullins (33.5 pts) led a group of six hitters that produced 30 points or more each for Perth, while Adolis Garcia (38 pts) and Anthony Rizzo (34.5 pts) were the only two that produced the same for deGrompton. The resulting 62 point differential in Hitting Points, and 42 point overall victory moves the Platypi to a BCL Mays Division 3rd Place Standing – 3 W’s and 6 L’s, tied with deGrompton’s record, but with the advantage in Total Points Scored for the tiebreaker.

The Say Hey Kid’s GM really cashed in on their Week Eight victory over the Orlando Splitters, and despite an incorrect pick in Week Nine, still find themselves in the driver’s seat for the Month 3 Pick-Em Payout. Seven GM’s are now tied at the one-correct-pick mark, and stack up as follows for the Total Points Scored during the Month tiebreaker: Say Hey, Orlando (-78 pts), Studs (-228 pts), Jackal (-249 pts), Perth (-252 pts), London (-310 pts), and the Moose Mounties (-367 pts).

the Super Smashing ‘Stros

Where did these Super Smash ‘Stros come from??? Just a season ago, the ‘Stros finished 15th of 16 with a 4 – 18 record … well, here they are in 2022 knocking on the Orlando Splitters’ door for the SCL Charlie Division Title. Matched-up against one another in the Divisional Week Nine, the Splitters had to anxiously await the conclusion of Sunday Night Baseball, that featured key Super Smash ‘Stro pieces such as Edwin Diaz, Starling Marte, Jeff McNeil and Francisco Lindor, before knowing whether they were going to stand atop their Division entering Week Ten or not. Edwin Diaz was naturally handed the ball in the eighth inning of the Sunday Night finale and marched his way to a individual season-best performance of 16.58 points. However, the final 6 points awarded to Diaz and the Super Smash ‘Stros for the Save, left the Splitters ahead by just enough: 1.25 points. The top performers within this Match-Up were among the League’s best during Week Nine – Justin Verlander was 1st with 57.75 points, Jurickson Profar 5th with 49 points, German Marquez 10th with 46.75 points and Randy Arozarena 16th with 41.5 points. With the victory, Orlando holds onto a now two-game lead in the Divisional race but can’t help to look over their shoulder as the ‘Stros continue an impressive 2022 campaign.

Other Notables

LeBronto continues to be on fire, claiming this week’s League Best Point Total (510.5pts), and manage to stay ahead of the also-on-fire Pablo and the Secret Weapons (now 7 – 2 on the year)in the BCL Vic Division. The Say Hey Kids not only took down 2022’s last undefeated HumBabe team in Week Eight, but followed it up by overcoming their Division Rival Jackal Attack by 30.5 points. The Kids now control the BCL Mays Division lead for the first time in 2022, one game ahead of Jackal. In the Shot Call League, Orlando holds a two game margin over ‘Stros for the Charlie Division and the Robins notably move to one game behind Wally Mash in the Ruth Division, with their victory over the hairy Tubmen. Wally Mash bested the Florida Squeeze by a 68 point margin and claim their Division Lead with a 6 – 3 record.
