Platypi Outshine the Stars
Christian Yelich (53pts) led the way for the Perth Platypi as they totaled 418 points in their Week Fourteen MOTW victory over Nashville. Masataka Yoshida and Kodai Senga added more than 30 points each for Perth, to be expected. Yoshida probably owns the American League Rookie of the Year award if handed out for the first half of the season, and Senga throws a Ghost Fork so…
Surprise performances however, is what took Perth into the Winner’s circle here. Both J.P. Sears (24.5pts) and Adbert Alzolay (28pts, 3 Saves), are rostered in less than 60% of Fantrax Leagues this season.
In the other dugout, the 1st overall draft pick in the 2023 FAR Draft – Andres Gimenez – grabbed onto the hip of Adolis Garcia’s 52.5 pts, put up 35.5pts himself, but ultimately saw his team fall short. All of that is rather forgotten at this point however, tensions are high in the clubhouse and not due to a player’s performance. Tensions are high due to the Club’s management during Week Fourteen. You may have seen Pablo Lopez (7th best SP to date this season) throw a Complete Game 12K gem for the Minnesota Twins this past week … well he didn’t throw it for the Stars, he and his 39.5 points were left on the bench.
Just Pablo Lopez’s outing would have been enough send Nashville into the break with this win, but the clubhouse clearly knows that those 39.5 points don’t amount to half of the 96 point total accumulated on the Star’s Week Fourteen bench. “It feels like we’re playing with a hand tied behind our back,” said one member of the team on his way to the locker room Sunday night.
The New Super Smash ‘Stros

This release has been years in the making, literally. Your Commissioner, who doubles as the founder of Effective Logos, has always had a knack for drawing conceptual Expansion Team logos – just in case Major League Baseball were to come asking for one someday. In 2012, Commish brought the “Houston Payloads” to life with pencil and paper. Represented by an astronaut who must have better Hit and Power Tools than Barry Bonds, if you’re basing that just off the bat he was drawn holding. That astronaut had lived in just a dusty drawing tablet since then, until now, eleven years later. The Super Smash ‘Stros now own the Astronaut slugger identity, playing of the space theme of the Astros with a Super Smash Bro inspired background. The hat emblem, a new addition to the original 2012 concept, takes a Milkway-Galaxy-like wave through the “S” – creating three separate “S’s” unique to these ‘Stros.
A Sleeping Giant?
Wally Mash took another tough loss this week as yet another one of their opponents played with their hair on fire. Wally Mash falls to 10th in the Record Standings but not to be mistaken with their 4th most in Points Scored Total. As we’ve seen in years past, punch your ticket to the postseason – which Wally Mash is still in position to do – and then anything can happen.
